 Article XXI. WATER ADVISORY BOARD

  § 1-384. Membership.

  • (a)

    The Water Advisory Board shall consist of the following fifteen (15) members:

    (1)

    Two (2) County Commissioners who are nominated by the Mayor, and are members of and appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida (the "Board");

    (2)

    Seven (7) City Commissioners who are members of and appointed by the Broward League of Cities;

    (3)

    One (1) member of and appointed by the Governing Board of the South Florida Water Management District;

    (4)

    One (1) member of and appointed by the South Florida Regional Council;

    (5)

    One (1) member of and appointed by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance;

    (6)

    One (1) member of and appointed by the Water Advisory Board Surface Water Coordinating Committee;

    (7)

    One (1) lay person, appointed at large for a term of four (4) years, by the Board; and

    (8)

    The Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Water Advisory Board.

    (b)

    The Broward League of Cities shall use best efforts to ensure that its appointees to the Water Advisory Board reflect the diverse geographic areas within Broward County.

    (c)

    The Broward League of Cities, the Surface Water Coordinating Committee, and the Governing Board of the South Florida Water Management District shall appoint an alternate member for each of their primary appointees.

    (d)

    Primary and alternate members will be subject to the attendance requirements of Section 1-233(e). However, if a primary member cannot attend a meeting, attendance of the alternate meets the attendance requirements of the both the primary and alternate members. Additionally, when a primary member is absent, the alternate may vote on the primary member's behalf.

    (e)

    Each member will serve at the pleasure of the respective appointive bodies. Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as making initial appointments, as provided in subsection (a) above.

    (f)

    Staff assistance and appropriate resources to the Water Advisory Board shall be rendered by the Broward County Environmental Planning and Community Resilience Division.
