The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has determined and declares that
the Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department (EPGMD) is to plan,
develop and recommend policies and to be responsible for the identification, monitoring,
enforcement and protection of natural resources and environmental quality with respect
to air, surface water, groundwater, wastewater, soil, beach erosion, hazardous materials,
biohazardous and solid waste management, wetlands, upland, coastal, and marine animal
and plant life, and other activities associated with the enhancement and protection
of the natural resources of Broward County which are necessary for the protection
and preservation of the public health, safety and general welfare. EPGMD is to be
proactive in ensuring a future in which the county's natural resources are preserved,
protected, and enhanced in keeping with federal, state, regional and adopted Broward
County Board of County Commissioners policies and guidelines.
