Article I. CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCY |
Division 1. SCOPE AND APPLICATION |
§ 9-2. Purpose.
(a)
It is hereby declared by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners that, in order to provide for and safeguard the life, health, safety, property, and public welfare of the people of Broward County, the regulation of all trades and occupations associated with the installation, repair, alteration, design, replacement, maintenance, or modification of electrical, plumbing, liquefied petroleum gas, and mechanical systems; the regulation of the building construction industry; and the regulation of engineered construction are matters affecting the public interest; and any individual or business organization desiring to engage in any of the trades or occupations regulated by this chapter shall be required to establish competency and qualifications as hereinafter provided before being certified to work therein.
(b)
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a uniform central system for the examination, certification, and regulation of all individuals or business organizations who are engaged in, or who intend or desire to engage in, the trades and occupations of:
(1)
Plumbing and specialty plumbing contractors;
(2)
Electrical and specialty electrical contractors;
(3)
General and specialty building contractors;
(4)
Mechanical and specialty mechanical contractors;
(5)
Liquefied petroleum gas contractors; and
(6)
Engineering and specialty engineering contractors.
