§ 9-55. Specialty plumbing categories.
(a)
Irrigation Specialty Contractor: An irrigation specialty contractor is a contractor whose contracting business consists of the execution of contracts requiring the experience, financial means, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, manage, monitor, audit, or, if not prohibited by law, design irrigation systems. An irrigation specialty contractor may install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, manage, monitor, audit, or, if not prohibited by law, design irrigation systems, including any excavation work incidental thereto. An irrigation system includes all piping, fittings, sprinklers, drip irrigation products, valves, irrigation controllers, control wiring, rain sensors, water pumps, water conservation devices, water harvesting systems, irrigation main lines downstream of a utility potable water meter or utility alternative water supply distribution line and dedicated backflow prevention device, and associated components installed for the delivery and application of water for the purpose of irrigation. An irrigation specialty contractor shall not drill wells or connect any irrigation system to potable water sources. Sprinkler and irrigation systems used for or in connection with agriculture are not included within the scope of work of an irrigation specialty contractor. In order to be eligible to be certified as an irrigation specialty contractor, the applicant shall have at least four (4) years of practical experience in the irrigation trade.
(b)
Other Specialty Categories: All plumbing specialty certificates of competency, except irrigation specialty contractor and gasfitter certificates of competency, shall not be effective after January 1, 1994. As of July 23, 1993, Broward County will not issue any further certificates of competency for gasfitters. All current certificates of competency for gasfitters shall remain in effect until the certificate holder dies, does not renew the certificate of competency, or the certificate of competency is revoked by the board in a disciplinary proceeding. All other plumbing work shall require either a master plumber certificate of competency or a state of Florida plumbing contractor certificate.
