§ 9-72. Qualifications for general building contractors.

  • (a)

    In order to be eligible to receive certification from the board as a general building contractor, the applicant shall demonstrate possession of the skill, knowledge, ability, and experience to construct, repair, alter, remodel, add to, subtract from, improve, and demolish buildings and structures, including related improvements to real estate, in accordance with the plans and specifications therefor and in compliance with the building code and other applicable codes and regulations. Such applicant shall demonstrate and possess the ability to plan, lay out, supervise, direct, and perform all work and activities associated with and included within the building construction trades.

    (b)

    A person certified as a general building contractor by the board may act as qualifying agent for a business organization that engages in or performs, or that intends or desires to engage in or perform, work in the building construction trades within Broward County, Florida.

    (c)

    A person or business organization that is issued a current active general building contractor's certificate of competency by the board shall, as long as certification is maintained, have the right to apply for and obtain building permits from, and perform and supervise work in the building construction trades in, any city or unincorporated area within Broward County, Florida.

    (d)

    In all instances where practical experience in the building construction trades is required in order for an applicant to be eligible to be certified in a specified building category or class, the board may, in its sole discretion, consider an applicant's formal and vocational education as practical experience.
