§ 9-103. Qualifications for mechanical journeyman.

  • (a)

    The journeyman mechanical technician classification is reclassified as mechanical journeyman. All persons so certified shall be reclassified as a mechanical journeyman.

    (b)

    In order for an applicant to be certified as a mechanical journeyman or specialty journeyman by the board, the applicant must demonstrate possession of the knowledge, ability and skill to perform mechanical work in accordance with the plans and specifications therefor and in compliance with the building code and other applicable codes and regulations. The applicant shall have no less than three (3) years of practical mechanical experience, or no less than one-half of the practical experience required for certification in the specialty mechanical category or class for which the applicant is seeking certification as a journeyman.

    (c)

    The board may, in its sole discretion, consider a person's formal or vocational education as practical mechanical experience.

    (d)

    A person certified as a mechanical journeyman by the board shall work under supervision and direction of a master or specialty mechanical contractor.

    (e)

    Qualifications for sheet metal journeyman:

    (1)

    Sheet metal journeyman means a person who possesses the knowledge, ability and skill to perform sheet metal work in accordance with the plans and specifications therefor and in compliance with the building code and other applicable codes and regulations. Such person shall have no less than three (3) years of practical sheet metal experience, or no less than one-half of the practical experience required for certification in the specialty sheet metal category or class for which the applicant is seeking certification as a journeyman.

    (2)

    The board may, in its sole discretion, consider a person's formal or vocational education as practical sheet metal experience.

    (3)

    A person certified as a sheet metal journeyman shall work under supervision and direction of a master or specialty mechanical contractor.

    (f)

    Qualifications for insulation journeyman:

    (1)

    Insulation journeyman means a person who possesses the knowledge, ability and skill to perform insulation work in accordance with the plans and specifications therefor and in compliance with the building code and other applicable codes and regulations. Such person shall have no less three (3) years of practical insulation experience, or no less than one-half of the practical experience required for certification in the specialty insulation category or class for which the applicant is seeking certification as a journeyman.

    (2)

    The board may, in its sole discretion, consider a person's formal or vocational education as practical insulation experience.

    (3)

    A person certified as an insulation journeyman shall work under the supervision and direction of a master or specialty insulation contractor.
