§ 9-105. Specialty air conditioning technicians.

  • (a)

    Class "C". The scope of work of a class "C" air conditioning technician shall include and be limited to the installation, service and repair of air conditioning units consisting of and limited to a package unit, which is completely self-contained, air-cooled, and referred to as a room unit, which does not exceed three (3) tons, and which is attached to electric power only by a plug-in receptacle. Such units shall be factory wired, supported by window or wall supports, and shall not have any duct work attached thereto or have any method of air distribution other than the unit's factory-installed grill. Condensate drains leading to the outside of the units may be installed when necessary and incidental to the installation of room units. In order for an applicant to be eligible to be certified as a class "C" air conditioning technician by the board, the applicant shall have at least three (3) years of practical experience in the category.

    (b)

    Class "D". The scope of work of a class "D" air conditioning technician shall include and be limited to the installation of air conditioning units consisting of and limited to a package unit, which is completely self-contained, air-cooled, and referred to as a room unit, which does not exceed three (3) tons, and which is attached to electric power only by a plug-in receptacle. Such units shall be factory wired, supported by window or wall supports, and shall not have any duct work attached thereto or have any other method of air distribution other than the unit's factory-installed grill. The installation of condensate drains to the outside of the unit is included within this scope of work. In order for an applicant to be eligible to be certified as a class "D" air conditioning technician by the board, the applicant shall have at least one (1) year of practical experience in the category.

    (c)

    No person not previously certified as a class "C" or class "D" air conditioning technician as of September 1, 1990, shall be certified. The board shall continue to license and regulate those persons who were previously certified.
