§ 3½-20. Issuance of temporary certificates.

Latest version.
  • (a)

In the event that any certificate holder, for any reason or cause, shall cease or refuse to provide EMS service within any area or emergency call zone within the county, the board may immediately issue or direct the administrator to issue one (1) or more temporary certificates for a period of time not to exceed ninety (90) days, upon such emergency conditions as the board may require. This time period is renewable once for an additional ninety (90) days, to any applicant who agrees to make prompt application to become the holder of a state ALS or BLS service license, after the board determines that there is no other ALS or BLS service holding the required certificate for that area or emergency call zone, and that the public interest, health, safety, welfare, or convenience will be served thereby. As a condition for the issuance of a temporary certificate, the applicant shall promptly initiate and carry forward appropriate steps to obtain a nontemporary certificate in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.

    (b)

In the event there is no reasonably satisfactory applicant for said temporary certificate or certificates, the board may direct the administrator to cause the county to perform the necessary ambulance service in compliance with the laws of the state of Florida.
