§ 9-21. Building permits.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Applications for building permits will be accepted only from persons holding an appropriate current active state of Florida certificate of competency or a current active certificate of competency issued by the board, who have paid all necessary business taxes in their respective trades or occupations, as required by law, who provide the appropriate business tax receipt(s), and who provide evidence of workers' compensation coverage pursuant to Chapter 440, Florida Statutes, as amended, and against whom no findings of violation after a disciplinary proceeding have resulted in the suspension or revocation of their certificate of competency.

    (b)

Broward County, and all municipalities located therein, shall issue building permits to any person meeting the requirements of Subsection 9-21(a) and shall not require any fee to be paid as a condition precedent to working, contracting, or doing business. A municipality may require a person certified by the board to present proof of identity and certification prior to obtaining a building permit or working within the municipality; provided, however, that no fee or tax shall be charged or levied for such identification. This subsection is not intended and shall not be construed as exempting any person from the payment of reasonable building permit fees or business taxes provided by law.
